As for the colors: Any color that has a strong resemblance to an already existing color for items/foes/friends is bad.

I'm pretty sure colorblind people cant see red OR green very well and the green burns my eyes

Magenta would be a good colour, not enough like red to be confused with enemies, and not like anything else either.
I think green was just used because it's what's expected, with green items in Diablo 2 and WoW, it was the easiest colour to choose.

they shouldn't do a orange like colour because that looks way to much like the gold ones

never seen a green item, only pics, so i cant really say anything about that but what i've seen in pics looks pretty clear

Maybe they can put in a huge 3D-arrow that points at the item that's for you. If you pick it up the arrow moves to the next item, and it would only appear on your screen.

Or a big MontyPython-like hand coming out of the coulds knocking you down and then pointing at the item.

Also, the green colour has helped me secure quite a few drops that weren't originally supposed to become my possession. You know how it goes: you fake an "afk", stand near the item and clickspam it till it's eventually yours. Three times and counting, I kid you not.

Do I feel ashamed about this?

Hell no.

I'd never do this to a friend or guildy, but if you're just some random dude, not paying attention to what's happening around you, you don't deserve the drop. Such is the hard nature of PUGs.
